Almost forgot to do this. I’d defend this guy a million times harder than I just defended Bono. Undoubtedly one of my favorite musicians of all time.
How does it end up that one guy is at point or another a member of two of the biggest acts of all time, the touring drummer for another, and have one of the most kick-ass side projects ever.
Oh yeah, and tour with Jack Black’s band. If I could be another person, it very well may be him. Join Nirvana right before they record the diamond-certified masterpiece Nevermind, as well as become the solidified permanent drummer and go on to record In Utero and MTV Unplugged.
He then goes on to found the f***ing Foo Fighters. No one expected the drummer from Nirvana to go on to front arguably the biggest act of the last twenty years, penning anthems like “Everlong”, “My Hero”, “Learn To Fly”, “All My Life”, “Best of You”, and “The Pretender”. Just hit after hit after hit.
And simultaneously be the touring drummer with Queens of the Stone Age. I think he was considered an actual member for a short time too.
And this is all without mentioning his project with QOTSA frontman Josh Homme and LED F***ING ZEPPELIN bassist John Paul Jones: Them Crooked Vultures. I guess they’re pretty good too.
Happy birthday Dave. Wish I was you.
