Melrose- MBL’s 2016 season began with a finals rematch, with Crown Trophy (1-0) edging out Eastern Bank (0-1) 41-36 behind a strong second half. MVP Will Vigneron lead the Champs with a monster night of 23 points, 8 rebounds and 1 assist. With the game tied at the half 19-19, CT started dominating the boards behind Vigneron, Kevin Hannon, and Matt Haley. Eastern Bank was tough competition as usual, with 8 steals as a team including 4 by All-League Nick Campbell, who added 8 points and 5 rebounds as well. EB was led by Dan Griffin with 10 points and 3 rebounds, while new addition Zack Perella had 7 points and 4 rebounds.  Each team will next play May 25th.
Brueggers & Jamba Juice 65, Honey Dew 45
Melrose- Brueggers & Jamba Juice (1-0) made a statement on Opening Night, showing off their new-look roster with a dominating 65-45 win over Honey Dew. BJ&J was able to withstand a barrage of 11 three-pointers by Honey Dew (0-1) to finish with four players in double figures. Colin Demagistris led all scorers with 13 points as well as 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Mat Difronzo and Nick Koytikh each debuted with 12 points, while Jack Sasso also dropped 12 points, 3 rebounds, an assist, a block, and a steal. All-League was solid as usual, with 8 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, and 1 steal. BJ&J out rebounded HD 37-27, which seemed to the key to the game. Honey Dew was lead by Chris Burke with 11 points and 6 rebounds, while Matt Stromski and Mike Casperiello each finished with 9 points (all three-pointers) and 2 rebounds.  Each team is off until their next games on June 1st.
