June 6 Recap

Both games tonight finished with record low scoring and stout defense.  In the end, Dockside set up a #2 vs #1 matchup on Wednesday against Brueggers & Jamba Juice

Dockside 23, Stoneham Sports Center 19

No this was not the halftime score, this was the final score.  Seriously.  Abysmal shooting led to only 26 points being scored in each half.  Brian Butt was the difference for Dockside (2-0), putting in 14 points with 6 rebounds and a steal.  Stoneham Sports Center (1-2) struggled to shoot the ball all night, as Pat Boudry and Troy Tartarini tied for the team-high with 5 points.  This was the installment of a new budding rivalry between MBL’s two Wakefield teams.  While both struggling from the field, the end of game intensity was there, which is what one can expect when two teams so familiar with each other face off.  Dockside faces Brueggers & Jamba Juice on Wednesday while Stoneham Sports Center is off until they face Honey Dew on Wednesday the 15th.  The second matchup between these teams will take place on June 29.

Eastern Bank 26, Honey Dew

Once again, this was not the halftime score, it was the final score.  It was a game off runs as Eastern Bank (1-2) jumped out to an early 9-1 lead while Honey Dew (0-3) cut the deficit to two.  They took a 19-9 halftime lead extended it to 26-9 earlier in the second half.  EB actually did not score from then on out, as HD provided a ferocious rally behind Zach McGuire (14 points, 4 rebounds) and Mike Crovo (5 points, 11 rebounds).  Honey Dew certainly had their chances but turnovers cost them.  A notable one was when McGuire was shooting two free throws with 1:34 left, and Jimmy Sullivan committed a lane violation by running in from outside the three-point line before it hit the rim.  Sullivan admitted that he did not know the rule but claims to have researched it after and claims that it was not a violation. Nick Campbell EB with 8 points while Evan Federico had 6 points and 13 rebounds.  Eastern Bank plays Wednesday against Crown Trophy while Honey Dew plays next Monday against Dockside.
