June 13: Honey Dew finally wins

At the halfway point of the season, Brueggers & Jamba Juice has continued their dominance, dispatching #2 Crown Trophy to tie the league record for best start at 4-0.  Honey Dew was able to pick up their first win of the season, and we once again will not have any win-less teams.

Brueggers & Jamba Juice 31, Crown Trophy 27

Most hyped game of the season provided some first half fireworks.  A short-handed Crown Trophy (3-2) jumped out to a 8-0 lead and held on for a 20-15 halftime lead.  Fran Hannon had a strong start with 9 points and 4 rebounds but had to sit out most of the second half with an ankle injury.  The second half was slow to start but Brueggers & Jamba Juice (4-0) was able to pull away by the end. While no player dominated for B&JJ, they had 8 different players score and all 10 of their players grabbed at least one rebound (Alec Picard only had one).  They where lead game by Connor Gilbert, who finished with 6 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals.  Nick Koytikh was contained to only 3 points, which probably is why they had their lowed point output of the season.  Brueggers & Jamba Juice will play Eastern Bank on Wednesday while Crown Trophy is off until Monday against Dockside.

Honey Dew 40, Dockside 39

In a game of crazy runs, Honey Dew (1-3) was able to pull out their first win of the season.  Dockside (2-2), jumped out to a 14-2 about 8 minutes into the game behind Mike McKenna (21 points, 3 rebounds) and brother Alex McKenna (8 points, 2 assists).  Over the next 20 minutes, HD was able to go on a 34-14 run to take a 36-28 lead late into the game.  Dockside was then able to mount a comeback and tie the game before Zach McGuire (9 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists) put them ahead for good.  A questionable shooting foul put Dockside at the line but they where not able to convert both free throws.  Honey Dew was led in the scoring column by Matt Stromski with 10 points and 3 rebounds (after a putrid performance last week), as well Matt Connolly (9 points, 2 rebounds), and Mike Crovo (6 points, 6 rebounds).  Dockside is off until next Monday against Crown Trophy while Honey Dew plays Wednesday against Stoneham Sports Center.
